Down Payment was a rock-band from Randers, Denmark. The band was founded in august 1989 by bass-player Jan Lajer, drummer Leif Mogensen and guitarist Søren Ahm. Later, the singer Tonni Schmücker joined the band. In 1991, the band was supplemented with guitarist Michael Møller Jensen. Down Payment has joined a few musical-contests, and has achieved good results in all of them. Of these, the following should be mentioned: Jutland amateur Grand Prix 1991 ,MTV Highway to fame contest 1993 ,Randers Band of the Year 1994.On the MTV Highway to Fame contest, the band competed against more than 300 other European rock-bands. In the contest, Down Payment had to make their own video-version of AC/DC´s "Highway to Hell". The judge was AC/DC´s very own Angus young, who gave the band a lot of praise. Down Payment made the final, ended up second best, and had the video shown on MTV. Down Payment has worked with several other famous artists from both Denmark and the rest of Europe. The singer from Danish heroes "Shu·bi·dua" received a demo-tape from Down Payment, and got so excited, that he offered the band a partnership, in which he would produce and pay the recording of an album. The result of this was a single-CD; "Soldier of Love" b/w "The Answer" released in 1994. Some months before the single was released, Tonni Schmücker left the band, and was quickly replaced by new singer Ole Krogh Jørgensen in august 1994. The single-CD led to a radio-tour in the spring of 1995. Down Payment visited 30 radiostations in Denmark, and reached the charts on several of these and others. As the radiostations wanted the band to play unplugged, the band chose a song by "Bad Company", called "Shooting Star" which many of the stations recorded for future airplay. In the rest of 1995, Down Payment played all over Denmark, and won a lot of new fans. In February 1996, the band went to Norway for the first time. This trip went so well, that Down Payment played at the famous music club "Smuget" in Oslo, 2 times the following year. Down Payment had the pleasure to play at the charity concert "Rocksport", in Keila, Estonia in both 1996 and 1997. "Rocksport" is collecting money for the SOS-Childrens village in Keila. After the trip to Estonia in 1996, the drummer Leif Mogensen left the band. He was replaced by Ulrik Kvist, a young talent from Randers, Denmark. In 1998, drummer Ulrik Kvist was replaced by Per Johanson, former drummer in TAAQ, a rockband from Greenland. However, Per left the band again in 2002. Leif then joined Down Payment again with Tonni and Michael. Søren, Jan, Leif, Michael, Tonni and Ole played the last concert at Tante Olga in Randers on April 16th, 2003. End of Story..
